In 2019, the International Festival & Competition « Young 2018 Bohemia » will be held in Prague for its 17th edition. Youth choirs and youth orchestras from all over the world visit the city stayed on the Vltava River and will take part of the most attractive musical events for young choirs and orchestras. Organizers are waiting for nearly 1000 young people aged from 8 to 26 years old.

Prague, with its unique and historical Old Town, has been registered on the UNESCO World Heritage. Let your choir or orchestra experience the charm of the city of a Hundred Towers and meet new friends from all over the world who share their joy of music with you.
During your stay, your choir/orchestra will be accommodated at a hotel in the requested category in Prague (according to availability at the moment of your registration).
You have the possibility to register your choir or orchestra either in the Festival or the Competition. At an evening get-together all participating choirs and orchestras are invited to present themselves with a traditional song from their country. The program also includes the participation in a Festival Parade through the Old Town of Prague for all registered groups ending with all groups jointly presenting the common song. The Festival ends with an evening closing ceremony with the awarding of the prizes followed by a disco party.

Concept:
The Festival consists in 2 parts: A) public concerts – B) Competition. The participants must be Young or Youth
Choirs or/and Orchestras in the 2 categories

A) Public Concerts:
Participants, choirs, orchestras and other musical ensembles must propose 1 or 2 performances and must learn and present a common piece that all groups will perform.

B1) Competition for orchestras:
This competition offers 5 categories:

  • 1. Copper and Wind Music Orchestras
  • 2. Symphony and String Orchestras
  • 3. Jazz Orchestras
  • 4. Folk music (music or music + singing)
  • 5. Pop and other orchestras

B2) Competition for Choirs:

  • 6. Mixed Choirs
  • 7. Young Boys Choirs
  • 8. Young Girls Choirs
  • 9. Youth Choirs (8 – 16 years old)
  • 10. Gospel, Jazz, Pop Choirs

In the category of Mixed Choirs, Young Boys Choirs, Young Girls Choirs and Youth Choirs: 1 composition from a Czech composer is obligatory.

Program 4 days / 3 nights

Day 1 – PRAGUE

Arrival in Prague in the afternoon and check-in at hotel.
Meet your local assistant at hotel.
End of afternoon, welcome reception for all choir masters with the officials of the city.
Dinner at restaurant or hotel. Night at hotel.

 

Day 2 – PRAGUE

Breakfast at hotel.
Festival opening concert of the International Youth Festival & Competition “Young2018Prague”   
Free time for optional lunch.
The competition takes place in the afternoon in the categories B1 (for orchestras) and for B2 (for choirs).
Half day city sightseeing in the afternoon for those groups who do not participate in the competition (category A) 
Dinner at the hotel.
In the evening get-together for all participating choirs and orchestras of the International Youth Festival and Competition (Duration about 1 hour).
During this evening all participating choirs and orchestras are invited to present themselves with a traditional song from their country (Every choir will be officially announced).
Night at hotel.

 

Day 3 – PRAGUE

Breakfast at hotel.
Morning: the competition continues (for categories B1 and B2) and the other groups enjoy city sightseeing.
Public concerts in the early afternoon for all festival groups registered in the category A, 
taking place in local churches or at public squares as open-air performances (weather permitting).
Official Festival Parade through the Old Town of Prague for all participating groups of “Young2018Bohemia Prague” following the public concerts.
All choirs and orchestras are asked to prepare 2-3 music pieces free of choice and appropriate for marching and to perform these during the parade. The parade ends with all groups jointly presenting the common song “Iubilate Deo” by Marko Ivanovic.
Group dinner at the hotel.
In the evening: closing ceremony with the awarding of the prizes and distribution of the festival participation certificates. Following, enjoy a disco party that ends the festival.
Night at hotel.

 

Day 4 – PRAGUE – Back home

Breakfast at your hotel. Departure.
