Carinthia: International Festival of Popular Songs

Carinthia is the southernmost and sunniest region in Austria where everything reflects the sweetness of life: lakes with crystal clear waters, green valleys, majestic mountains, summer temperatures … It is in this welcoming province that the charming city is located. Wolfsberg overlooked by its castle (11th Century) and whose municipality is at the instigation of the festival “Singing in the mountains” that has existed for several years, thus perpetuating the tradition of choir widespread in Austria. This festival attracts many choirs passionate about traditional, folk and popular songs (in patois and dialects) profane or sacred.
As it should be with this type of repertoire, the atmosphere is cheerful and friendly. The invited choirs are hosted by Austrian choirs to share a meal, which quickly creates friendships.
The concerts are given outdoors (except bad weather, which is rare) and the highlight of the festival takes place on Sunday morning on Mount “Koralpe” at 1500 meters, gathering all the singers for a concert in “green pastures” followed by common songs.

Program 4 days / 3 nights

Day 1 – WOLFSBERG

Arrival in Wolfsberg. Reception and installation at the hotel.
Dinner at the hotel and accommodation.

Day 2 – KLAGENFURT AND THE WÖRTHERSEE

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, departure for Klagenfurt, capital of Carinthia. On arrival, guided walking tour of the city, followed by a boat trip on the “Wörthersee” the largest and most famous lake in the region.
Back to the hotel for dinner
In the evening, opening ceremony at the Congress Center Wolfsberg in the presence of the Mayor.
Overnight.

Day 3 – WOLFSBERG

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, guided visit of Wolfsberg and concert in different places of the city, outdoors. Lunch with the reception choirs.
Afternoon free for a free visit of the castle, the museum or the abbey St Paul located in the old city.
Dinner at the hotel
In the evening, concert at the Congress Center or City Hall with the Austrian choirs.
Overnight.

Day 4 – WOLFSBERG

Breakfast at hotel. In the morning, departure for the mountain “Koralpe” (1500 meters). In this exceptional place, a mass will be given with all the singers: the men’s choirs and the mixed choirs will sing alternately 4 common songs.
Closing of the festival in the presence of the officials then lunch for all.
Return to Wolfsberg and departure or extension of stay (contact us).
